Happy Spring. Spring is our favorite season. I am so excited to start this garden lesson with my 4 year old son. A lot of the lesson plans will be hands on learning. I will be teaching him without planting a garden as I do not have a "green thumb".

We will start by learning different fruits and vegetables. Learning what is a fruit and what is a vegetable then sorting them in baskets labeled fruit and vegetables. By the end of the lesson he will be sorting fruits and vegetables by does it grows above or under ground? I used my kids fake food from kitchen set.

He will practice measuring by measuring fruits and vegetables with mega blocks to find out which one is the tallest and which one is the shortest. I made a worksheet for this but you can find one online for this.

Washing your fruit and vegetables are very important. What kid does not like to play in water! I will be putting some vegetables and fruit in a bin with water and allowing him to wash them. I will be using real fruit and vegetables for this that way the water does not get into the fake food.

My son will also be learning about the life cycle of a fruit and a vegetable. We will talk about what fruit and vegetables need to grow. I decided to pick his favorite fruit and his favorite vegetable that way he more into learning about it. I found a free worksheet online for this.

We will be exploring seeds by using them for counting with counting cards. I used index cards for numbers. He will also be exploring bird seed with magnify glass.

We will be practicing his abcs with playdouh and beans. We will use Abc flashcards and he will make the letter with the beans on the playdouh.

He will be learning some children's garden songs and reading books. We will take a trip to the store to look at fruits and vegetables.
